Te-Hikuroa, Super City

The Local Government (Auckland Law Reform) Bill includes provisions that will establish a Māori Statutory Board that is independent of the Auckland Council.

The Independent Māori Statutory Board is intended to be a means to ensure that the Auckland Council takes the views of Māori into account when making decisions.

Te Puni Kōkiri will be holding four information hui, specifically on the provisions in the Bill that relate to the Māori Statutory Board, for those who may have an interest. 

These sessions will include a summary of what the provisions in the Bill will mean, and to explain the process for making submissions to Select Committees should people wish to voice their opinions on any aspect of the Bill.

The Bill has been referred to the Auckland Governance Legislation Select Committee and submissions are being sought. 

The deadline for submissions is 12 February 2010.
